WHOOOPIE - I'm on Anything But a Card Design Team with Steampunk as my First Challenge!!!!

WHOOPIE!!! I can finally tell you the marvelous secret that I have been holding inside - I'm one of the newest members of Anything But a Card Design Team!!!!!!

For my first project the theme is STEAMPUNK!!! WOW!, What an amazing project theme as the definition of Steampunk is science fiction, fantasy and fictional historical tales set in an alternate Earth's 19th century where inventors made great leaps in technological advancement with materials like iron and brass and using steam engines for power. Today, this term refers to an alternate art style where artists create projects using gears and re-purposing objects and calling it art!!!

This week at Anything But A Card where the rules are simple - your project should be anything but a card with the theme being STEAMPUNK!!

For my Design Team project, I chose to use my embroidery machine with a design from Urban Threads called Clockwork Snowflake Ornament with the pendulum being keys from Miriam's Crafting Supplies added by using jump rings along with a small spoked gear charm.

Almost reminds me of Alice in Wonderland where I'm late I'm late --- and Alice with the keys to the different doors and now I'll be singing White Rabbit the rest of the day by Jefferson Airplane!!!!!! I was "geared" to be late as my embroidery machine and I were having this disagreement along with a kitten interaction who discovered she could turn the on/off switch on the serge protector which in turn jammed my machine which in turn broke several needles!!! I was sew glad that I found the correct "key" to solve the problem and get my project done "on-time"!!!!

RECIPE and SUPPLIES:
  • Clockwork Snowflake Ornament was embroidered using Madera gold, burgendy, and a moss green thread and water soluble stabilizer
  • all pieces were joined with a brad to make the clock hands moveable
  • hot glued a spoked gear charm covering the brad in the center from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
  • the pendulum was made by adding jump rings and two different keys also from Miriam's Crafting Supplies
  • a jump ring was added to the top to attach a Christmas ornament hanger to finish my project
My first Design Team Project along with my first Christmas Ornament made!!!!! Yippee!!! I'm sew excited and hope you like my project.

The Design Team consists of some very talented ladies whom I am sure you would want to visit their blogs to see their creations along with posting yours to Anything but a card.

Suzy Bee's Bloomin' Blog Challenge #48 - Anything Goes with a Twist: Add a SPLASH of RED!!!!

This week at Suzy B's Blooming Challenge Blog our wonderful sponsor is Paper Pretties. Of course it's Anything Goes but this week with a twist - a splash of red!!!!!

For my Design Team project, I chose A Tale of Two Hearts. This card is for my boyfriend, Bob. He's such a sweetie. When we go to his cabin he rides around after we get our ice cream cone of course to find the best place to sit and watch the sunset AND on our one trip he stopped and got me a baby kitty. NOW, how purrrfect is this card??? He's a gentle, loving man whom I'm lucky to be with . . .

RECIPE and SUPPLIES:
  • red Recollection card stock cut for a size A2 card
  • background is from my stash and its a tie-die which looks purrfect for a sunset which was then chalked around the edges
  • kitties were colored with Spectrum Noir Markers, Prisma Colored Pencils to create the sunset and gel pen accents and chalked around the  edges
  • bakery twine was wrapped around the one side of the card with a red bow
  • sentiment, "Purrfect for each other!" was chalked around the rounded edges and added to a scrap of the tie die paper -  now, how purrrfect is that for a sentiment???
  • I love love love the color red and I may have gone a bit overboard with my "splash" but hey . . . . it's a sunset!!!!
P.S. If you look very closely at my image, you can see a faint image of the sun between the two cats!!!

Here's one of those glorious sunsets we sat and watched at Pymatuning . . . .

I thank you for stopping by and visiting today. Don't forget to showcase your project on Susy B's Blooming Challenge Blog this week to enter in the Challenge!!! It's anything goes with no size restrictions with the only restriction of that being your imagination . . . . let your imagination run wild!!!! I can't wait to see your creations!

You really don't have to be young to find a friend in a teddy bear

I met this lovely lady at Water Aerobics. Her name is Joann. She's beautiful inside and out. WELL, I was having a melt-down and she was there offering her love and sympathy. I'm glad I met her and glad I call her friend. I found out she loves bears along with Paulette at Create with TLC and made this card for Joann.

Create with TLC had this adorable teddy bear as a freebie on September 8th as September 9th was National Teddy Bear Day!!!  I dearly loved this image and just had to make him into a friendship card with adding a few buttons, ribbon, and a bow! I used to make teddy bears for people which were made with love and each had its own character even though they were all the same fabric - amazing how a little stuffing and placement of the face can change a whole project which is just like a card!!!

RECIPE and SUPPLIES:
  • DCWV The Craft Stack is the background of my card which is a size A2
  • backgrounds were from my scrap drawers and chalked around the edges
  • Create with TLC Teddy Bear, had been a previous freebie, was colored with Prisma Markers and gel pens
  • Create with TLC "life is better with friends" sentiment, had been a previous freebie, corners were rounded with faux stitching around the edges and then chalked

  • ribbon is Darice satin edged organza and placed on opposite corners
  • buttons, including my teddy bear was a button, were glued on the four (4) corners of the image
  • ribbon bow attached to bear's neck to finish

  • DCWV The Countdown Stack was used for both the inside and outside of the box card
  • I followed the tutorial on Split Coast Stampers along with watching the video but now, I'm psyched and want to make another one but I'm thinking my next one will be for Halloween!!
  • Create with TLC Vintage Dog Drummer, had been a previous freebie, was colored with Spectrum Noir Markers and gel pens
  • Create with TLC "Happy Birthday 2 You" sentiment, had been a previous freebie, was colored, rounded the corners and then chalked around the edges

We have said that we're going to have to share a room in an old folk's home but to make sure there is room for our crafting supplies! When we get together, we have a great time just laughing and sharing stories of how our week has gone. Also, the joke is that she is shorter than I am and when we worked at JoAnn Fabrics together, I used to tease her that it would only take 2 yards to make a skirt for her because she was short! P.S. she always loves to wear a red hat in the winter also . . . .
